Synthesis is the name of a system and a vehicle. It allows for people living outside of the public transportation grid to replace their car but still keep the freedom.
The system is an extension of public transportation connecting all the users, mapping out as efficient travel as possible. It helps the users pick local alternatives to solve their daily needs to help strengthen the local economy. The Synthesis gives concrete facts to the users about the benefits of the local store, fisherman, farmer or whatever it may be. The system does not only give alternatives to shopping but also on other local places to visit. All the information is provided by the users themselves to create a closer community. The Synthesis is a truly democratic system, not excluding anyone because of age, economy or special needs.

The project is all about possibilities. There are enough negative reports about the future that we get fed every day; I want this project to show the other side.
What I want to create is a solution for transportation in the year 2040. It is going to deal with ownership, planned obsolescence vs. planned rejuvenation, giving back and providing attractive alternatives to todays ways of transportation.
The project is going to be about creating a mobility product that will be positioned between what we today call privately owned transportation, and public transportation.
What I want to produce is a concept that allows consumers to start their energy descent.

The Synthesis is a fully automated system that does not require active human control. This is made possible with a very precise evolved relative to the Gps. Synthesis is fully electric and uses extremely efficient batteries. They are extremely small, light, efficient and of no harm to our environment. In the Synthesis the batteries are placed in the floor and in the exoskeleton. The four engines are placed one in each wheel. That means that it is four wheel drive for safety and good weight distribution. The wheels are almost fully encapsulated to reduce the drag. Synthesis charges itself at its charging-station and this is also where it goes when it is in stand by mode. The charging-station works with induction power without dangerous electricity that people can hurt the public.

The purpose of this project is to provide a system and a product that gives people living in rural areas the same freedom that a private vehicle gives in a shared one. It solves all your daily transportation needs such as commuting, shopping and leisure while creating a stronger sense of community.
Commuting has never been simpler. You make all the settings in the systems interface such as address, pick up spot, times etc. and then you and the other users going to work all gets picked up and taken to work or public transportation. The Synthesis is an extension of public transportation. Not a replacement for it.
The system helps promote local alternatives for shopping. This could be a store, fisherman, farmer, beekeeper or whatever. It does this to help the users keep their own surroundings alive and active. Since the vehicle is driverless there is also an option to get it to pick up the goods.

Since Synthesis is not a form of public transportation, nor a private one the question of who provides this service is tricky. What I chose to go for is a combination of ownership. The service and product is provided by the state/municipality. In the case of the surroundings of Gothenburg the provider would be Västtrafik. In 2040, public transportation is free. The Synthesis being a semipublic/ semi private solution it would be subsidised but require a small fee every month.
